Why Every Business NEEDS An Email List.

The best thing for a business is to never put all of your eggs in one basket. Lately, I’ve been seeing countless businesses, personal brands, and content creators having their social media accounts deleted. It can be absolutely earth-shattering for some when that is the main or worse the only, way they reach their audience and serve their consumers. We’ve all seen email marketing in action, and most of us know that it works. BUT we often overlook the importance of growing that list, nurturing it, and investing just as much time and effort into as we do social media and initial branding.

Email lists have nearly limitless potential and can help to significantly grow your side-hustle or full-time business into something that is self-sustaining, profitable, and rooted. You end up having this incredible way to connect with your audience in an authentic and strategic way.

Still not a 100% sold on why you need to grow your list? Keep reading, and trust me, you’ll get there!

Your Audience Has Chosen to Be on Your List

In order to receive your amazing emails, your audience had to have signed up willingly to your email list. They’re literally welcoming you into their personal space, their coveted exclusive inbox simply because they are interested in what you have to say and offer. That means, simply, they are already more likely to click, share, connect, buy, or whatever it is you want them to do because they are already hooked and interested.

You have a hot and engaged audience just waiting for your guidance. This is frankly the best thing you can have for your brand. If you look at your stats and compare them, your email conversion will inevitably be higher than your social media conversion or click-through rates. Mine definitely is!!

Your Email List is YOURS

Other than your website and literal incorporation of your business, the only thing you have complete ownership of is your email list. Think about it - Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc, they’re all owned by another company. This means, any time there’s a new algorithm, update, or service that disrupts your social media reach and performance, there's nothing you can do about it.

However, when it comes to your email list(s), every single person is guaranteed to receive your content whenever you send it out. And unless you’re just not serving your audience, they aren’t just going to poof! disappear overnight. Just thinking about losing all of my social media give ME anxiety, so I can’t even imagine what would happen if I didn’t have my email lists.

Drive Traffic

Instead of sharing your latest product launch, blog post, or service announcement, try sharing it via email. When you send an email out, you guarantee delivery, and that at least a good amount of those people will read through it. However, when you put it on social media, there’s no guarantee that anyone will ever see it, let alone engage with it. On Instagram especially, within hours your content is lost, and the vast majority of your audience won’t have ever known it even existed. Talk about a waste of effort, especially if that is your only source of promotion.

The email list wins out here again!

It’s Easy To Apply & Maintains Branding Cohesion

As a Branding Specialist, I cannot stress the importance of maintaining your branding cohesion on every platform. I’ve sent too many emails out to count at this point and besides the fantastic obvious of being able send out what I want, when I want, everything is beautifully on brand. From my initial welcome sequence to my monthly round-ups, every single email has my logo, brand colours, fonts, images and that means my brand is being seen frequently and engaged with as well. We’re always working to build that “know, like, trust” factor and increase brand awareness and expand our reach.

Not sure how to start? I recommend using Flodesk for your emails as it takes zero coding, minimal design experience, and is very straightforward to set up. I have extensive experience with MailChimp & ConvertKit, and more, and I found Flodesk to be just so simple and straightforward. For clients that even want more minimal work with Flodesk, we create a few templates as part of their branding identity package, and then they simply duplicate and tweak as needed.

But How Do I Start?

Pick the platform that is right for you. Research different platforms and look at what you need from your email marketing service. What are your goals? For me, I needed quick, cohesive, interactive, and efficient. So I chose Flodesk.
